DJP Update 9-12-2005 Important new info for
volunteers - Katrina
Here is important update info. I have been on phone last several days
trying to relay the message that we need to get a working system at Dept
of Health and Hospitals so volunteers can get though to those in chargec
and not get bounced emails or phone congestions messages.
Dave Tarver of LSMS also working hard on this.
I reached one of the listed individuals today at DHH site who is at Baton
Rouge General and she was helpful and sent me this info. See note
below. I just tried the first number and got a nice lady rather than
a busy signal. I went to the new web site and it worked. It is
www.helpthemnow.net
Onward!
We will get it done no matter what the obstacles.
Thanks for all of the volunteer messages.
Stay well.

Subject: volunteer physicians
Dear Dr. Palmisano,
I have two contact numbers for physicians to volunteer for the evacuation
centers. 225-763-5766 or 225-763-5740. Both of these
numbers are at the command center for the State OEP and DHH offices who
are working with the centers. There is also a web site
www.helpthemnow.net that will
allow medical volunteers to sign up andn submit the information needed
before they travel to Baton Rouge.
If any physicians from Baton Rouge contact you, I can schedule them and
they do not have to go through the contacts listed above.
I am trying to coordinate local physicians for three evacuation centers
here in Baton Rouge to act as a resource for out of town volunteers and
captain the care areas of the centers. We ask each physician to bring a
stethescope, prescription pad and a copy of their license.
The River City Convention Center has two medical care areas. River
City 1 is located on the north side of the center. Centroplex 2 (CP2)
is located in the south end zone of the center. Parking is available in
the West garage.
The Clarke Activity Center is located on Southern University campus.
Parking is located near the building.
Thank you for calling. If I can offer any further assistance, please call
me.
