DJP Update 11-16-2005 - Two physicians looking for opportunities
outside New Orleans

Last night I attended the meeting of the Chalmette Medical Society as a guest at a local Metairie restaurant.  Had the opportunity to meet some heroes who remained during Hurricane Katrina in two hospitals, Chalmette General and Methodist in New Orleans East.
The sad news is the hospitals may not be open again for another year to year and a half.

Two doctors indicated to me that they are looking for opportunities outside of New Orleans post-Katrina as they have to continue to
practice and honor their obligations.

I recommend both of them without reservation.

Here they are:

1) Jan T. McClanahan MD
Jan is one of the heroes who did outstanding work during Hurricane Katrina.  He was evacuated on the last helicopter that took the remaining staff and patients out of Methodist.  He has been in practice in our surgical group since he completed his residency at Tulane Surgery in 1974.  Jan is a great general and vascular surgeon and a wonderful kind person.
Jan can be reached at 504-881-8253 or by email: JanTMcClanahan@aol.com

2) Michael D. Brown MD
Michael is my nephew and those who attended my inauguration as AMA president in 2003 will remember him as the outstanding lead singer at
the inauguration ceremony.  He is a talented musician and singer as well as being a terrific pathologist.  He did his training at LSU and Ochsner.
Michael can be reached at 504-615-5122 or by email: mbrown345@cox.net

Hope opportunities come their way.  They deserve the best.

LAGNIAPPE:  Robin and I and Tabasco are adjusting to living in our trailer which is now parked in our driveway.  We now have a new roof
which allows us to start on the internal repairs to our home.  I learned how to open the side awning and Robin and I had a cookout last Saturday.  I bought some flowers and put them in pots on the fence next to our awning, tacked posters to the fence of some of Robin's favorite scenes, and hung my Ipod and portable speaker on the fence.  We had Jim and Pat Brown over and had a great time.  Who knows, we might keep the trailer and trunk and travel the USA when this Katrina trauma is more in the distant past.

Stay well.
Donald
