When Bob McMillan speaks at meetings, people get quiet and listen.)
------

DJP note: Dr. Joe Annis is the son of my AMA hero, Dr. Ed Annis, the AMA President of 1963-1964 I mentioned in my AMA presidential
inaugural address.  Dr. Ed Annis is the gold standard for orators.  Dr. Ed Annis was on the stage with the past presidents and other
representatives when Dr. Plested was inaugurated.

Let's give our AMA Board full support.  Many challenges loom ahead.

One last comment before Lagniappe.  On Monday, I was invited to speak to the AMA Alliance.  My topic was Leadership and my message was a preview of the theme of the book I am writing on Leadership.  What a group of folks!  You can't help but love them.  They do so much for Medicine and in addition have raised over 90 million dollars over the years.  Don't forget that physicians, as well as physician spouses,
can join the Alliance.  Send in your dues today: $40.00.  They need our support.
To join, go to:

and you can join online.
There are 1650 people who receive this DJP Update.  Let's surprise
them with over 1000 new members.

LAGNIAPPE:
I was invited to speak in Rapid City, South Dakota by the medical society (SDSMA) just before the AMA meeting.  I mentioned the
upcoming talk in my last update.  I gave  that speech plus one to the state health department.  I also visited Ellsworth Air Force Base
where I was chief of surgery 1968-70 (Special thanks to Dr. Robert Allen for arranging the VIP tour).  Many memories flooded back.
Tremendous hospitality by the physicians and medical society staff of South Dakota.  Also AMA Delegate Delegate Dr. Jim Engelbrecht (and
thanks to his wife Marilyn for continued encouragement for speeches) of Rapid City and Alternate Delegate Dr. Mary Carpenter gave us
special attention during the visit in South Dakota.    Also former AMA Alliance President (2002-2003) Patti Herlihy and her husband John
went above and beyond by having Robin and I stay in their beautiful home during the visit.  John also took me for a ride in his ZR-1
Corvette! Finally, I was able to go trap shooting with Dr. Tom Krafka, radiologist in Rapid City.  Considering the lawlessness that
occurred after Katrina, that is not a bad skill to maintain.  Last year when I spoke in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, I saw Dr. Krafka
shoot one shotgun shell and hit two targets as they flew through the sky from different directions.  He hit them as they crossed.  Quite a
feat!   The South Dakota visit was a treasure.  Such is the joy of the friends you make by involvement with AMA.

Stay well and travel with care.
